Historic Whitehall Estate In Peru, Indiana. Childhood Estate of Cole Porter’s Mother
In July 2024, just two weeks before our long-anticipated trip through Italy, we were relaxing in our living room when we suddenly heard what can only be described as the sound of our house collapsing. We rushed to the kitchen window and were stunned to discover that five fully mature trees had fallen down the back hill, devastating our courtyard, damaging the side porch, tearing holes in the roof, and ripping off siding—resulting in nearly $50,000 in damages.
Having never filed an insurance claim on any of our homes, this was an entirely new and challenging experience. Over the course of the following nine months, we navigated repairs and restoration, culminating in a completely new roof, updated gutters, extensive cleanup, and the removal of additional at-risk trees.
As of last week, after returning home from Florida, we’re thrilled to share that our contractor, architect, and builder have completed an incredible transformation of our previously unused porch. It now features a stunning 14-foot and 10-foot tall pergola that beautifully enhances the courtyard while preserving the French country charm we love.
A heartfelt thank you to State Farm Insurance for their support and to our talented builders, Anthony and Dave, for their craftsmanship and dedication. After nearly a year of waiting and rebuilding, we’re finally feeling whole again—and excited for what’s next.
